We have created a program that makes a career in disability accessible to everyone with no course fees. Working in disability is some of the most rewarding work you will ever do. Our JobReady program enables people that have not worked in this amazing sector before to make a career change and take their first steps into a new career in disability.

This FREE program starts with an 8-day in-classroom intensive training program. The course content is delivered through a mixture of hands-on practical and course work. This method of learning maximises the retention of the course content and provides the biggest benefit for students.

At the conclusion of the 8-day intensive training, you will be Job Ready and employed by ONCALL to work with our NDIS participants. You will have access to regular ongoing training and development with our 22-week support and mentoring program, including follow-up webinars, workplace activities, and supported shadow shifts with experienced staff.

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support (CPR), management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, in a range of situations, including; in the home, workplace or within the community until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

This course requires a theoretical and practical assessment. Content is based on Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Course in disability first aid (10735NAT)

This course is an extension of Provide first aid HLTAID003. It equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to modify their approach if required to provide effective first aid to a person with a disability affecting their body systems and/or mobility, e.g. a person who is in a bed or wheelchair.

In many instances, the response to be provided to a person with a disability is the same, such as in the case of anaphylaxis or allergic reaction, for example. However, some first aid situations require the application of modified first response techniques, for example, responding to a person who is in a bed or wheelchair who is seizing or choking. This course includes the unit Provide first aid to a person with a disability (DFAADF001) that provides skills and knowledge to apply modified techniques where the first aid response differs for a person with a disability. In addition, it includes the ability to recognise and report that a person may be severely depressed or suicidal.

Please note: This is an additional subject and you will be provided with a voucher to cover the full cost of this module at ONCALL Training College. Participants will be expected to enrol for this subject in their own time within the first 22-weeks of the JobReady program.
